BURDEN OF JUSTICE STAGED READING AT THE BROOMFIELD AUDITORIUM<\/p>\n
The public is invited to attend a rare event on Sunday afternoon,
\nSeptember 18, 2011, from one to three PM. \u00a0GhostCry Productions
\npresents a staged reading of a new screenplay, Burden of Justice.<\/p>\n
This is the story of an American dream gone terribly wrong. \u00a0In
\nDetroit in 1925, one of the most explosive trials in history divided a
\nnation along racial lines. \u00a0An African American doctor, Ossian Sweet,
\ndefended his home in an all white neighborhood, against a violent mob.
\nA bystander was shot and killed. \u00a0Dr. Sweet, his wife, family members
\nand friends were put on trial for thier lives, with little hope for
\nsuccess. Clarence Darrow, the “Great Defender”, one of the most
\ncontroversial lawyers of all time, took their case.<\/p>\n
The screenplay is by Karilyn T. Starks, who has optioned material to
\nan executive producer for a major television production company. \u00a0The
\nstaged reading is directed by Michael T. Starks, who has created
\nseveral short movies and a full-length modern adaptation of Macbeth.
\nThe event is going to be performed at the Broomfield Auditorium and is
\nsponsored by Boulder Community Media, a non-profit organization. \u00a0The
\nperformance is free to attend, and donations are welcome.<\/p>\n
The staged reading features performances by many talented local
\nactors, including: \u00a0Tom Jerke (Clarrence Darrow), Gene Horne (Ossian
\nSweet), Alfred Ferrari, Arthur Martinez, Ashley M. Kalfas, Carol Anne
\nLopez, Carol Rust, Daniel Seifert, David Lasker, Daniel Fiamengo,
\nKevin Rostad, Kris Thompson, Lindsey Calvert, Rachael West, Tim
\nJohnson, and Wyatt MacNeil.<\/p>\n
The screenplay is based on actual events. \u00a0Our staged reading may
\ninfluence how the final draft is prepared for agents and producers in
\nHollywood. \u00a0We hope to raise awareness of issues of prejudice that
\nremain to this day, to provide critical feedback to the author to
\nimprove the screenplay, and to give actors the opportunity to play
\nreal characters from history. \u00a0This process provides the foundation
\nfor a movie project that could generate revenue for the film community
\nin our state.<\/p>\n
